Core instructional design framework
STAGE
Role: Primary framework for designing connected module learning experiences.
Phases: Set the Scene / Transform / Apply / Gauge / Evaluate
Status: Current core model — approved
“STAGE helps faculty design a connected learning progression from relevance and instruction through practice, feedback, and demonstrated learning.”
Through-line: “Design the learning.”
Assessment and task design framework
QUEST
Role: Format-neutral process for planning, creating, reviewing, and revising questions, prompts, tasks, and assessments.
Steps: Quality Purpose / Understandable Expectations / Evidence of Learning / Suitable Response Design / Thinking Demand
Status: Current core model — approved
Through-line: “Strengthen the evidence.”
Important: QUEST applies to all formats — multiple-choice, discussions, essays, projects, presentations, demonstrations, and performance tasks. Not only quiz questions.
Optional supporting strategy — not part of the core model
BAS: Balanced Assignment Sequence
Role: An optional scheduling pattern for balancing work, submission cycles, interaction, grading demands, and meaningful feedback across a course.
Status: Supporting strategy only. Do not place at the same level as the Rubric, STAGE, or QUEST.
Separate AI professional-learning framework
PACE
Role: A practical review process for evaluating AI-generated content before using, adapting, sharing, or publishing it.
Steps: Purpose and Alignment / Accuracy and Authority / Context and Completeness / Ethics and Equity
Plain-language sequence: “Check the purpose. Verify the information. Examine the context. Consider the consequences.”
Status: Separate AI professional-learning area. Not part of the current core course-quality pathway. Institutional AI policy is still developing.
